Cable Testing & Diagnostics in Singapore

Independent cable testing and diagnostics to verify the integrity of new and existing HV and LV cables in Singapore. We perform VLF (Very Low Frequency) withstand testing, DC Hi-Pot testing, Partial Discharge (PD) diagnostics, Tan Delta (dissipation factor) testing and Insulation Resistance (IR) testing — for commissioning, condition assessment and fault investigation across the Singapore power distribution network.

Why choose SG Cable Specialist

Full diagnostic suite under one team

VLF, Hi-Pot, Partial Discharge (PD), Tan Delta and IR — comprehensive cable diagnostics under one contract, no juggling multiple specialists.

Calibrated test equipment

Up-to-date calibration certificates supplied with every test report.

Clear acceptance criteria

Tests run against IEEE 400.2 and manufacturer specifications, with pass/fail reporting.

Pre-energisation & maintenance testing

Commissioning tests for new cables and condition-based PD/Tan Delta diagnostics for ageing assets.

Our process

  1. 1

    Test plan & isolation

Agree test type, voltage and duration; coordinate isolation and earthing.

  2. 2

    Insulation resistance test

IR test as a first-pass health check before applying higher voltage.

  3. 3

    VLF withstand & Hi-Pot test

Apply withstand voltage per IEEE 400.2 or manufacturer specification.

  4. 4

    PD & Tan Delta diagnostics

Partial Discharge mapping and Tan Delta (dissipation factor) measurement to assess insulation condition and locate weak points.

  5. 5

    Report & recommendations

Detailed test report with measurements, trends and remedial recommendations if needed.

Frequently asked questions

What is VLF cable testing?

VLF (Very Low Frequency) testing applies an AC voltage at 0.1Hz to stress the cable insulation and detect defects, without the over-stressing risks of DC testing on XLPE cables.

Do you offer Partial Discharge (PD) testing?

Yes. We perform on-site Partial Discharge testing and PD mapping on HV cables and accessories to detect insulation defects, poor joints and terminations before they fail in service.

What is Tan Delta testing and when is it used?

Tan Delta (dissipation factor) testing measures the dielectric loss of the cable insulation to assess overall ageing and water tree degradation. It's commonly used for condition assessment of medium-voltage XLPE and PILC cables.

When should I do Hi-Pot testing?

Hi-Pot testing is typically done on commissioning and after major repair works to confirm the cable's dielectric strength.

Do you provide IR (insulation resistance) testing?

Yes — IR testing is included as a baseline health check before higher-voltage VLF, Hi-Pot or PD/Tan Delta tests.

Can you test cables up to 22kV?

Yes. Our test equipment covers the full Singapore HV distribution range up to 22kV.
